New England is expected to be hit with a rare hurricane as Tropical Storm Henri moves north this weekend. Anyone living in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts should pay attention to forecast updates.
Friday morning the National Hurricane Center reported maximum wind speeds of 65 miles per hour for Henri, but the storm is expected to strengthen to a category one hurricane by Saturday morning. If the storm stays on the current forecast track it should make landfall Saturday into Sunday.
Dangerous storm surge is expected in parts of Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts. Hurricane watches are already in effect for these areas.
Heavy rainfall is likely to lead to flash flooding throughout New England Sunday into Monday.
